The Udu is a hand drum designed to be played in the percussionists lap. Finger tapping the surface of the drum creates a gentle clicking sound, with a soft bass undertone, while palming the lower hole creates a rich, resonant, and deep bass sound. It rests on top of a small stand, perfectly sculpted to the shape of the base of the drum.
